# Glossary of terms

Here are definitions of key terms we use at UNIQGIFT and throughout this documentation:

  • End user or recipient (voucher recipient): An individual who receives digital vouchers. They are the ultimate beneficiary of a voucher, entitled to redeem it for goods or services at a merchant.
  • Client: A business client or individual who purchases vouchers from UNIQGIFT.
  • Voucher: A digital representation of a right to claim goods or services at a merchant. Vouchers are issued through this API from products.
  • Product: The templates from which vouchers are issued. Each voucher is an instantiation of a product, which defines its attributes such as name, description, and type.
  • Catalogue: The complete list of products that can be issued as digital vouchers. A client catalogue refers to a subset of the complete UNIQGIFT catalogue.
  • Merchant: Businesses that accept vouchers for goods or services. Merchants may accept vouchers issued directly by UNIQGIFT, vouchers issued on their behalf by UNIQGIFT, or their own vouchers that UNIQGIFT resells.
  • Issue (voucher issuance): The process of generating a new voucher from a product of the catalogue.
  • Redeem (voucher redemption): The process of exchanging a voucher for the purchase of a good or service at a merchant.
